The Hospice Institute​

The Hospice Institute promotes excellence in end-of-life care through knowledge, education and research. Created in 1997, it is the only such institute in Ohio.

The Hospice Institute of Hospice of the Western Reserve is the education and research arm of the agency. The Hospice Institute leverages more than 35 years of collective knowledge in the fields of palliative and hospice medicine, bereavement support and expressive therapies to provide articles, presentations and by serving as a resource to the community, universities and the media.

The Hospice Institute offers educational opportunities for students of all disciplines, allied health professionals and physicians. The Institute is a continuing education provider for social workers, counselors, nurses and physicians. Additional education opportunities are provided for other healthcare professionals by request. The Institute's continuing education programs cover informative subject matters about end-of-life care such as pain and symptom control, the grieving process, the disease process, patient and caregiver needs and more. In collaboration with area universities, Hospice of the Western Reserve actively engages in research advancing the science of hospice and palliative care. Studies aim to improve care of patients and families dealing with advanced illness.
