Volunteer and Community

Hospice of the Western Reserve has been a member of the Northern Ohio Community for almost 40 years. We are your neighbors, friends, caregivers and family members. With more than 1,000 paid staff and 3,000 volunteers, our dedicated team members live, play, shop, worship and work in every corner of our service area.

Special Holiday Announcement: Cooking Donation Policy

During the holiday season, many people ask about donating holiday cookies for the patients and families in our care. We always welcome and appreciate the community’s generosity, but, like any other time of the year, we must follow food safety guidelines. We must require those wishing to donate holiday treats to follow the guidelines below.

To comply with food safety standards, we are not able to accept home-prepared items. Holiday treats must be pre-packaged and purchased from a grocery store or other licensed food service companies. This ensures that we can meet our patients’ health, safety and allergy needs.

Cookies may be dropped off in the Volunteer Office at the Ames Family Hospice House, the David Simpson Hospice House or the Medina Inpatient Care Center and we will serve them on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Drop off any perishable food products that require refrigeration within an hour of purchase.

Getting Started

There are many ways we reach out and interact with the community and we are grateful that the community supports our mission so generously with talent, time and treasure. In these videos, our volunteers share how they make an impact - and how our patients touch their lives.

Families and retailers donate new and gently used furnishings, antiques and décor to our volunteer-run resale operations. Our quarterly Warehouse Sales, HMC Life’s Treasures Thrift Shop and seasonal Christmas Shop in Medina are great places for bargain hunters who also want to support hospice patients and families with their purchases.

Corporate volunteer opportunities bring large groups of volunteers to our headquarters, hospice houses and care centers. These extraordinarily energetic individuals can do a month’s worth of work in one day’s time.
And our devoted hospice volunteers are ordinary people of all ages, from teenagers to seniors, with an extraordinary love and a common bond of concern for others.

They contribute to the overall well-being of our community one person, one family at a time. Volunteers help in countless ways and are limited only by their imagination.

Volunteering at Hospice of the Western Reserve can be a life-changing experience. From helping with patients and their caregivers to assisting at our Warehouse Sales to a corporation providing a day of service, volunteering at Hospice of the Western Reserve is one of the most rewarding things you'll ever do

Hospice of the Western Reserve is community-based 501(c)(3) non-profit hospice, tax ID: 34-1256377 Your donation is tax-deductible as permitted by law.
