Dow Chemical Company Foundation Provides


The Dow Chemical Company Foundation has awarded a $1,000 grant to the Ashtabula Office of Hospice of the Western Reserve in support of the hospice concept of care as an important part of the health care delivery system in the local community. The grant is part of The Dow Chemical Company Foundation’s support to communities where employees and retirees live. The grant is made in recognition of the value of hospice, and to honor hospice volunteers for their special contributions.

Mary Kay Tyler Named Fellow by Hospice and Palliative Nursing Association


​Mary Kay Tyler, Vice President of Quality for Hospice of the Western Reserve, recently achieved a distinction few others in her field can claim: she was named a Fellow in Palliative Care Nursing by the Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing Association (HPNA). Mary Kay and Chief Clinical Officer Judy Bartel are two of only 68 HPNA Fellows in the United States. The Fellowship was awarded at the annual assembly of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association.

Denise DiMare Named Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse of the Year


​Denise DiMare told her mother in the fourth grade that she wanted to be a nurse. She never veered far from those childhood dreams. Recently, she was nationally recognized by her peers when she was named Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse of the Year. Denise oversees 60 clinical care professionals on the referral, assessment and liaison teams at Hospice of the Western Reserve.

Bob Phillips-Plona Named Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Administrator of the Year


​Bob Phillips-Plona, Director of Residential Services at Hospice of the Western Reserve, has dedicated his entire career to serving some of the most vulnerable residents in our community. Over the past 20 years, more than 30,000 terminally ill patients and their families have benefited from his operational and administrative management skills at David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake and the Hospice of Medina County Inpatient Care Center.
