Honoring a Legacy


​ “Art should be a part of everyone’s life.” It’s a philosophy Dale Kutz expressed often. As an art teacher for Brunswick City Schools, he helped mold young minds and instill creativity for more than 30 years. Aside from his teaching career, Dale was also a gifted artist in his own right. The Art Space Gallery in Akron, Canton Museum of Art and Lakeland Community College are just a few of the public venues that exhibited his paintings.

Being By Your Side is His Calling


​For 80-year-old Pat McMahon, sitting with a dying patient at their bedside in their final hours is more than an act of caring. He considers it a sacred calling. As a By Your Side volunteer for Hospice of the Western Reserve, he travels across 11 counties whenever he is needed to provide a compassionate presence.

Kayla's Dinner


​Fifteen-year-old Kayla Hoover is battling a rare brain disorder, but that isn’t stopping the Mayfield Heights teen from making the most of each day. She is an inspiration to everyone who meets her. The progression of Kayla’s brain tumor prevents her from enjoying many of the activities she used to love. So Michelle Miller, a social worker on Hospice of the Western Reserve’s Pediatric Palliative Care team, worked a little magic to make one of Kayla’s special wishes come true.

Words & Snapshots: Healing Arts Aims for Outreach


​In collaboration with the staff of the Cleveland Public Library, Hospice of the Western Reserve took its Healing Arts program on the road this year, visiting two Cleveland neighborhoods.

The workshops, made possible in part by funding from Cuyahoga Arts and Culture, are art therapy sessions available through Western Reserve Grief Services to help people on their grief journey.
