The Madison community came together recently to honor one of their own: 98-year-old World War II veteran Boyd Waite. Private Waite served in the Army from 1941-46 and was stationed stateside in Maryland.

New Grief Support Group Offers Help to Families Coping with Overdose Deaths


​Recent news reports about court cases and settlements with
pharmaceutical companies have focused attention on the need for more
resources to prevent opioid overdose and support treatment and recovery.
According to statistics from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA),
in 2017, Ohio had the second highest rate of opioid overdose deaths in
the U.S., with 4,293 deaths. That rate is nearly three times higher than the
national average.

John Mastrojohn III Joins Hospice of the Western Reserve as Chief Innovation Officer


​John Mastrojohn III recently joined Hospice of the Western Reserve as Chief Innovation Officer. As a key member of the executive Leadership team, he oversees Human Resources, Staff Experience, Marketing, Communications and Business Development. He is responsible for forging strategic business relationships, driving growth and developing innovative strategies to increase access to quality care for patients and families facing serious illness across Northern Ohio. He will also be collaborating with other hospice leaders as part of the “Care Solutions Network of Ohio” to increase collaboration, strengthen ties, and share best practices with neighboring community-based not-for-profit hospices in Ohio.

Hot Dogs with a Side of Hospice


​Happy Dog is more than a popular neighborhood restaurant and bar in Cleveland’s Gordon Square Arts District. It’s also known for hosting monthly talks on topics of wide-ranging community interest.

This week, Happy Dog patrons learned more about the deeper work of hospice at a community forum called, “Healing Arts at the Happy Dog.”
