Corporal Robert “Denny” Mooney, Sr. Honored for Distinguished Military Service


​World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient Corporal Robert “Denny” Mooney, Sr. was recently honored for his distinguished service to the country. Approximately 20 family members gathered with Mr. Mooney on the front porch at his home in Pepper Pike for a virtual veterans recognition ceremony planned by Hospice of the Western Reserve (HWR). Volunteer Don Stark, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam as a Lance Corporal, presided over the ceremony via remote technology. Members of the hospice care team also participated.

Hospice of the Western Reserve Earns Highest Level In National Veteran-Centered Care Program


​Hospice of the Western Reserve (HWR) has been named a Level 5 Partner with We Honor Veterans (WHV), a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Level 5 is the highest level WHV partners can attain and includes several required activities and yearly recertification. We Honor Veterans was launched in 2010 to address the growing need for veteran-centered care, especially as veterans are aging and need access to palliative and hospice care.

Madison Community Honors 98-Year-Old World War II Veteran


The Madison community came together recently to honor one of their own: 98-year-old World War II veteran Boyd Waite. Private Waite served in the Army from 1941-46 and was stationed stateside in Maryland.

Area Veterans to be Recognized During Free Luncheon Program at LCCC on Oct. 29


​Veterans of all wars and conflicts and all branches of the Armed Forces and their families are invited to attend a free luncheon and public Veterans Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 29, hosted by Lorain County Community College (LCCC), 1005 North Abbe Rd., Elyria, in collaboration with Hospice of the Western Reserve (HWR). The event will be held in the Spitzer Conference Center. Doors will open at 11 a.m. The luncheon and program will begin at 11:30 a.m. To RSVP, call 216.430.0955 or email cstrang@hospicewr.org. The deadline for reservations is Tuesday, Oct. 15.
