47-year-old with Rare Disease to Donate Body for Research

This is the story of Jay Briggs, a 47-year-old resident of Rose Lane Health Center in Massillon. Jay is living with a serious progressive illness called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).  In medical parlance, the term, "idiopathic" means the cause is undetermined. Although there is no known cure, treatments help manage the symptoms of the disease. Jay's story is also an account of personal strength and integrity, compassion and living life to the fullest extent possible in the face of an incredibly difficult diagnosis. Hospice supports Jay and makes that possible.

The trips include visits to the national memorials that honor their service. In August 2014, Charles Platia took part in an Honor Flight Cleveland trip with nearly 50 veterans and their escorts. Videographer Don Pavlish and I both had the privilege of accompanying the veterans to document the day's events.

Not everyone has the  opportunity to experience “life being lived to its fullest” at work, but one Hospice of the Western Reserve employee was so touched after taking accompanying a patient on a “day to remember,” she wrote a poem capturing the occasion, and created a digital picture to emphasize one of her patient’s more memorable days.
