A Baby is Born as a Grandmother Says Goodbye


​It was a day of sadness and hope. A bittersweet day where a family rejoiced the birth of a first son and mourned the death of a beloved grandmother of 10.

On Jan. 22, 2014, just 18 hours after Wyatt Troyer entered this world, his great-grandmother, Barbara Milota passed away. Wyatt’s mother, Sara Troyer, doesn’t find the timing coincidental.

West Park Mom Honors Daughter’s Memory through “Misty’s Wish” Event


​Hospice of the Western Reserve is kicking off a program to recognize “Hospice Heroes,” a community of individuals, families, and school, church or service groups across Northern Ohio who host fundraising activities that help the non-profit agency provide care to all who need it, regardless of their ability to pay. Last year, the hospice covered unreimbursed expenses and charity care valued at nearly $5 million in the Northern Ohio region. Organizers are often family members or friends of a patient who had been in hospice care.

The Tale of a Cowboy Reunited with his Daughter

​Thomas “Butch” was a red-headed cowboy who spent much of his life traveling the rodeo circuit, working his way as a ranch hand and breaking horses the right way.  He lived among Native Americans and held great respect for all living things. Butch had a fun loving but gentle approach to life. Butch shared the most precious of his few photographs, a picture of his daughter as a child with the Hospice of the Western Reserve team. He expressed his emotional pain and deepest desire to find Ashley Dawn, who he had not seen since he was young.

Therapy Dog Honored by Rocky River Mayor


​For years, Mojo, a Hospice of the Western Reserve therapy dog, has been making the rounds acknowledging residents of nursing homes and hospice houses. But this year the 10-year-old got his own acknowledgement from an impressive source: Rocky River, Ohio Mayor Pamela Bobst.
