The mission of Shape Up America! is to provide you with solid science-based information on weight management. Over the years, the Surgeon General has warned Americans about the hazards of cigarette smoking or a high cholesterol level in your blood. In 1996, the Surgeon General warned us that regardless of our age, we are just not active enough. You may wonder just how much activity would make the Surgeon General happy. Our purpose here is to clarify how much exercise is necessary to manage your weight and to introduce the 10,000 steps program.

Baldwin Family Gift Benefits Ashtabula Community


Seventy new books, part of a generous gift from the local Baldwin family, are being donated to several Ashtabula County libraries. The new books will extend community accessibility and supplement the original Baldwin Library Collection, donated in 1999, which is housed at Hospice of the Western Reserve’s Ashtabula Office.

It was a mystery involving top-secret military work that lasted six decades, and a Mayfield Heights man was in the midst of it: Exactly what went on behind the fences of Fort Hunt in Fairfax County, VA, a secret military intelligence facility, that operated during World War II, was so confidential the outfit remained unknown until 1978.

Ames Family Hospice House Awarded Prestigious LEED® Green Building Certification


November 20, 2013 (Cleveland, Ohio) — Hospice of the Western Reserve announced today that its new 40,000-square foot patient care center, Ames Family Hospice House, has been awarded LEED®  Gold certification established by the U.S. Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). LEED is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
