​The Westlake home care team from Hospice of the Western Reserve (HWR) honored and thanked Corporal James “Norris” Jett for his military service in post-World War II Europe with a family Veterans Recognition Ceremony at his home in North Olmsted Tuesday. The ceremony is part of the nonprofit agency’s Peaceful & Proud program, which pays special tribute to those who have served the country.

Volunteer Ron DeMeza Honored for Serving Fellow Veterans


​Hospice of the Western Reserve volunteer Ron DeMeza has received the 2019 Heroes for Andy Award from The Andy Nowacki Foundation. Ron is a U.S. Army Veteran who served in combat in Vietnam from 1970-1972. Over the past two years, he has dedicated his volunteer service to conducting Veterans Recognition Ceremonies to honor fellow veterans who are hospice patients as part of HWR’s Peaceful and Proud veterans’ program.

May 26 Veterans Honor Run in Avon Lake to Benefit Valor Home and Nine Line Foundation


​Join us in Avon Lake on Sunday, May 26, for the 7th annual Veterans Honor Run presented by Hospice of the Western Reserve. Participants and their families and friends are invited to wear their best red, white, and blue to show their support! This year’ s event benefits Valor Home in Lorain and the Nine Line Foundation. Valor Home is a transitional housing program for homeless male veterans. The Nine Line Foundation is a national charity dedicated to meeting the financial and specialized needs of severely injured soldiers and their families.

94-Year-Old World War II WAVE Honored on Birthday for Military Service


​South Euclid resident Arlene Perry received a very special honor on her 94th birthday. Mrs. Perry, who served with the Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) during World War II, was honored for her service as 20 members of her extended family gathered to celebrate her.

He’s Not Your Average Joe


​World War II Navy veteran Joe Dardis has seen a lot of history in his 104 years. Joe was born in 1914. World War I had just begun, the Panama Canal was opened, and the world’s first electric traffic signal was erected in Cleveland. Eighteen U.S. presidents have occupied the White House since Joe was born. He has witnessed dozens of milestones, including the introduction of automobiles, airplanes, radio, TV and the internet.
