CLEVELAND, OH — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – APRIL 10, 2025
Hospice of the Western Reserve has received a historic $5 million gift to its Quality of Life capital campaign from ECHO Health, the Westlake-based company founded by the late Bill Davis. This transformative contribution, the largest single gift in the organization’s history, will accelerate the completion of its new Hospice Care & Community Center on Cleveland’s Lake Erie shore.
Originally projected for completion in 2027, the state-of-the-art facility is now expected to open in early 2026, thanks to Davis’ generosity. It was one of several lead gifts that helped ensure the capital campaign started strong.
In recognition of this gift, the facility’s Center for Community Engagement will be named in honor of Bill Davis. The Center will serve as a hub for bereavement support services, educational programming, outreach, and activities and celebrations for patients and their families. It will provide a space for healing, learning and connection.
“My dad, Bill Davis, believed very strongly in giving back to the community and even more so in repaying the kindness of others who had helped him along the way,” said Katie Davis, General Counsel and Compliance Office of ECHO Health. “He lived his life with the utmost integrity, loyalty and commitment to his principles, and it was incredibly important to him to help others along his journey, so it seems very fitting for our family to honor him in this way and to see his legacy shine on.”
The recognition of his legacy resonates deeply with those who have witnessed the lasting impact of his values and generosity.
“Bill Davis was a modest and unassuming man, but his generosity is profound,” said Bill Finn, President and CEO of Hospice of Western Reserve. “The wonderful legacy of this gift from Bill and his family ensures that our mission—to provide exceptional end-of-life care for the Northern Ohio community—can continue to thrive.”
With Davis’ contribution, the Quality of Life campaign has now raised nearly $22 million, thanks to the leadership and generosity of donors like ECHO Health. The total estimated project cost is $25 million.
The new Hospice Care & Community Center will feature 32 private patient rooms, each with a view of Lake Erie, enhanced family spaces, and advanced medical technology to support complex care needs.
