Hospice of the Western Reserve is proud to celebrate Danny, a dedicated volunteer and Vietnam veteran, as a recipient of the 2025 ServeOhio Award. This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who make a lasting impact through service and volunteerism across the Buckeye State. As part of the award, Hospice of the Western Reserve will receive a $1,000 grant to support its mission.
Danny has been an integral part of the volunteer team since December 2019, using his passion for music to bring comfort, healing and connection to veterans and patients alike. Over the past five years, he has dedicated more than 30 hours to Veteran Recognition Ceremonies, offering heartfelt musical tributes, including his moving rendition of “God Bless America”, that foster unity and pride among those who have served. Beyond these ceremonies, Danny has contributed over 10 hours of musical performances at hospice events, providing comfort to patients and their families during some of life’s most challenging moments.
“I am very humbled and honored to have been chosen to receive such a prestigious award. I’m sure there are others who are more deserving than I,” said Danny. “I like giving back. I am a fortunate man to be as healthy as I am at my age, and I feel that giving a dying veteran the recognition he or she deserves is the least I can do.”
Danny’s ability to honor fellow veterans while using music as a powerful form of emotional support sets him apart as an extraordinary volunteer. His commitment exemplifies the very best of Hospice of the Western Reserve’s mission: to provide compassionate care and enhance quality of life at the end of life.
