On Saturday, August 17, 2024, the second annual Sending Hope Butterfly Release event took place at Schnormeier Gardens in Gambier, Ohio. Our hope is that the act of releasing a butterfly will create a lasting memory for loved ones.
Following a brief memorial service, where the names of the honored were read aloud, each participant released a butterfly, allowing it to soar with thoughts and prayers in memory of their loved ones. Les Harmeyer, the drummer and vocalist for Six Miles to Nellie, joined Danielle England in providing musical accompaniment during the memorial service.
The Hospice of the Western Reserve expresses gratitude to our kind host, Ted Schnormeier, for the use of Schnormeier Gardens. Our thanks also go to local artist Jim Leitz for sharing his passion for painting, and to all who attended and donated generously, making this event memorable. A special thank you to the volunteers whose contributions were vital to the event's success. The proceeds from this event will benefit patient care and bereavement services.
As you release this butterfly in honor of me, know that I'm with you and will always be.
Hold a hand, say a prayer, close your eyes and see me there.
Although you may feel a bit torn apart, please know that I'll be forever in your heart.
Now fly away butterfly as high as you can go, I'm right there with you more than you know.
