CLEVELAND, OH — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – OCTOBER 9, 2024 — Hospice of the Western Reserve is proud to announce a landmark $3 million leadership gift from The James and Angela Hambrick Foundation to the Quality of Life capital campaign to build a new Hospice Care & Community Center on Lake Erie in Cleveland. This transformational gift was the first donation to the campaign and one of the largest ever made to support this visionary project, aimed at enhancing the community's access to superior end-of-life care.
James Hambrick, retired Chairman and CEO of Lubrizol Corporation, and his wife, Angela, have a longstanding relationship with Hospice of the Western Reserve, marked by their ongoing generosity and commitment to improving care for those in need. Their recent gift is structured as a matching challenge, encouraging other philanthropic leaders to step forward.
“The ideal of non-profit superior end-of-life care for our community runs strong through us,” James Hambrick said. “Our service and donations to Hospice of Western Reserve have helped make a difference over the last couple decades. My wife, Angela, and I are very pleased to make a major leadership gift toward the new Hospice Care center.” James Hambrick also serves as the Quality of Life co-chair along with William “Skip” Bowman and his wife, Stephanie.
This is not the first time The James and Angela Hambrick Foundation has supported Hospice of the Western Reserve. In 2021, the Foundation made a $2 million contribution to the organization’s Care Solutions Center, further advancing Hospice of the Western Reserve’s mission of compassionate, patient-centered care. The Hambricks’ latest pledge will help fund the construction of a new Hospice Care & Community Center on the shores of Lake Erie, a project that represents a significant investment in the future of end-of-life care in Northern Ohio.
“We are profoundly grateful to James and Angela Hambrick for their extraordinary generosity,” said Bill Finn, President and CEO of Hospice of the Western Reserve. “Their leadership and commitment to our mission continue to inspire us, and their gift will have a lasting impact on the quality of care we will provide well into the future for the community we serve.”
The new Hospice Care & Community Center, scheduled to open in 2026, will feature 32 private patient rooms, all with views of Lake Erie, enhanced family spaces, and state-of-the-art technology to support the increasing complexity of end-of-life care. In addition to patient care, the facility will house a community center offering bereavement support services and hosting activities for patients and families, creating a space for healing and connection.
As of the September 18 groundbreaking ceremony for the new Hospice Care and Community Center, the Quality of Life capital campaign has already raised nearly $16 million toward its $18 million goal, thanks to the leadership and generosity of donors like James and Angela Hambrick. The total estimated project cost is about $25 million.
