Volunteers & Community

No matter your role, volunteering with our agency can be a life-changing experience.

Volunteer 216.255.9090

Hospice and palliative care volunteers provide comfort, compassion and care for our patients and families.

It is our philosophy that volunteers are part of our team. To maintain quality care for our patients and their loved ones, we have a few requirements of our volunteers. Individuals hoping to volunteer must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Receive a TB test if volunteering with patients
  • Agree to our Influenza Program requirement
  • Agree to complete two continuing education opportunities annually
  • Wait 12 months to start the training after a significant loss if wanting to volunteer with patients

To learn more about volunteer opportunities in your area contact volunteering@hospicewr.org or start the application process here.

This role can include supportive visits and phone calls, visits to patients in our inpatient facilities and bereavement support. You can share your professional skills as an attorney, cosmetologist, massage therapist or notary. We offer specialized training for End-of-Life Doula, Veterans Serving Veterans, Hands-on-Care, Comfort Touch, Reiki and Spiritual Care.

We understand that direct patient care isn't for everyone. You can support our organization, patients and their loved ones by assisting with administrative tasks such as data entry, mailings, phone and clerical support and staffing the reception desk at our inpatient units. Other community engagement opportunities include supporting our annual events, facilitating and presenting at volunteer trainings or education programs.
Volunteers help support all of our resale operations. As a volunteer at Life's Treasures (Medina) and Encore (Sandusky), you can support our mission by organizationing donations, assiting customers and helping with inventory management. Additionally, we host quarterly Warehouse Sales (Headquarters) and are on the lookout for volunteers to help with sorting donations, assiting on event day and staging items.

Corporate and Community Group volunteer opportunities provide organizations with the chance to engage employees and individuals as a part of their social responsibility. Volunteer groups can range in size and only need to complete a brief orientation to get started on pre-assigned projects. Past projects include painting, cleaning, gardening, clerical work and more! We are happy to work with your group to identify the project that will be most impactful for both organizations.
